When it was time to build my author brand and promote my debut novel for Philomel/Penguin, I knew I wanted to do things differently. Instead of promoting, I wanted to make fun things to share with people. I wanted to bring the book to life through lil’ lovebombs. And I wanted to work with people I loved. That’s exactly what happened.
From a whimsically-branded web site and postcards to 80’s-inspired illustrated posters, buttons, graphics and a music video, the campaign for THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING did more than launch the book – it made people smile in the process. (And got a lot of press!) In the end, THEORY appeared on some major lists and won the 2014 Oregon Book Award for Young Adult Literature. It also inspired me to help other authors on their promo journeys.
